DAVID SPICER
Doc Spice Permaculture was founded by David Spicer — a regenerative designer, earthworks operator and water harvesting specialist with over 25 years of experience working across Australia and internationally, worked and taught with Bill Mollison.
In addition to designing and implementing regenerative landscapes, David has taught permaculture and regenerative earthworks courses to landholders, farmers and practitioners in Australia and overseas.
His work centers on restoring landscape function through water, soil and thoughtful design — creating landscapes that become more resilient, productive and alive over time.
His mission is to transform thirsty, stressed land into productive, self-sustaining ecosystem build to thrive for generations without ongoing inputs.
DAVID SPICER'S STORY
Why I do this work:
I've had a passion for earth-moving since I was young. My father was a dozer operator, and after leaving school, I spent a year in civil construction before working across construction, orchards and forestry.
Over time, I became increasingly disillusioned with the way we often manage land. I could see the effects of water leaving landscapes too quickly, declining soil fertility and the gradual loss of healthy ecosystems.
In 1999, I completed a Permaculture Design Course with Bill Mollison. It changed the way I saw the world. I discovered that by working with natural processes, we can build systems that support both people and life.
As I learned more about water, soil and ecological processes, I became drawn to reshaping landscapes in ways that harvest water, build soil and foster life.
Nothing gives me grater satisfaction than seeing a degraded landscape come back to life and knowing it will continue to improve for generations to come.
